| How will I get to the centres? | As part of your employee package, those who choose to work in one of our French centres are provided with return travel to and from the centre. This is usually by executive coach from the port of Dover in Kent or a Rockley Watersports company vehicle. Those who work in Poole are expected to make their own way to the centre. |
| Can I take my own car to France? | You are able to take your own vehicle to France however in such cases you are expected to make your own travel arrangements. Parking at the centre will be in allocated parking spaces off-site. |
| How much and when will I get paid? | Details of French pay are included in the recruitment pack on a separate sheet. The cost of full board accommodation in France is already deducted from the amounts shown. Staff who work at Rockley Point and Rockley at Poole Park will be paid in accordance with the minimum wage. The normal working week in the UK is 40 hours. All staff will be paid four weekly in arrears in to your bank account. |
| Can I bring my own kit? | If you are travelling to any of our French centres by coach there may be a restriction on the amount of luggage you are able to take. Please pack sensibly! Please inform us of any kit such as windsurfing equipment you would like to bring with you, so that, if possible, we can make the necessary arrangements. At Rockley Point as there is limited storage space for kit please ensure you have contacted Team Rockley to check if it is possible to bring your own kit. |
| Can I use the equipment at the Centres? | As a member of the Rockley Watersports staff you are allowed to use watersports equipment at the centres in your spare time subject to availability and authorisation. The use of powerboats is allowed at the discretion of the management. Should any damage incur during your usage of the equipment you will be liable to cover the cost of repair. |
| Will I be provided with uniform? | All members of Rockley Watersports staff are provided with and required to wear a staff uniform. The basic uniform consists of: Rockley Instructor Gill tee shirts : a Rockley Instructor Gill rash vest: a Rockley Instructor bib or a Rockley Instructor bouyancy aid and a Rockley fleece. The uniform will be issued when you arrive on site and you are welcome to keep it at the end of your season as a memento of your experiences at Rockley Watersports. For water-based staff buoyancy aids can be borrowed for the duration of the season if your uniform consists of the Instructor bib. The catering teams will be provided with a full set of whites. We do have a dress code (provided in the Staff Handbook) and this should be adhered to by all staff. |
| Will I need to take out insurance? | For staff in France, we do not offer a foreign workers insurance policy, this must be arranged by yourselves if you should choose. We do recommend that all our Instructors take out the RYA Instructor Indemnity Insurance available by calling the RYA on 0845 345 0400. All staff members working in France need to have a European Health Insurance Card available from the Post Office or online. You will need to show this in order to receive hospital treatment should this be required. In France some treatments are free (with a valid EHIC) and for others you may have to pay part or all of the cost and then claim either a full or partial refund. Claims for medical expenses are quicker if claimed in France but it may be easier to claim on your return to the UK. Your Centre Manager should be able to assist with claiming whilst in France. Any medical expenses that cannot be reclaimed under the EU reciprocal healthcare arrangements may be covered by your own insurance policy if you have taken one out. |
| Passports | You are required to have a full 10 year passport and non-EU passport holders may require visas. Lost, stolen or new passports will take a minimum of 2 weeks to replace. |
| Will I be given any training or further information on arrival at the centre? | Rockley Watersports is committed to the continual training and development of its staff. We provide each member of staff with a centre induction when they arrive on site. This includes an introduction to: the centre; centre staff; operating procedures; health and safety procedures; emergency and major accident procedures and fire procedures. Rockley Watersports staff also receive, as part of their ongoing training and development, a Rockley Watersports Training Manual. The training manual offers ongoing training that will be conducted throughout your time at Rockley Watersports by a senior member of staff. Contained in the Training Manual is a personal development section in which you are provided with the opportunity to either improve on your existing watersports skills or develop new ones. |
| Will I get feedback on how I am doing? | Throughout your time at Rockley Watersports your Centre Manager and a member of the Senior Management team will give formal and informal appraisals. These will provide you with the opportunity to receive feedback on your own performance and to make comments about your working environment. |
| Can friends or family come and visit or stay with me? | This can be arranged subject to availability however we will require prior warning in writing and there will be a charge for board and accommodation. |
| Who can I talk to? | No matter which centre you are based at, there will be a Centre Manager who will be happy to offer advice or support should you require it. If you need to speak to anyone before starting your employment with Rockley Watersports, contact Team Rockley on 01202 677272.
