Watersports training specialist, Rockley has launched a brand new training product based at its flagship centre in Poole, Dorset.  Rockley Academy will focus on instructor training and specialist centre management across the watersports disciplines of Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing and Powerboating in response to the international demand to increase the sport of sailing at a grass roots level.

In an article published by Sail World in November 2009, ISAF President, Göran Petersson, delivered a report at the ISAF annual conference, detailing that for Rio 2016 and future Games, ISAF needs to focus on increasing the foundations of the Olympic sailing pyramid, 'We need to look at the universality of our sport,' said Petersson.

“Our position as a 'Connect to Sail' partner of ISAF, the world governing body of sailing, together with huge interest in our watersports consultancy through Rockley International, meant we were receiving more and more training, and course enquiries, from around the world. Rockley Academy will allow us to better meet the requirements of individuals, as well as watersports training federations, and associations. We provide a ‘one stop shop’ for all watersports training, including coaching and specialist centre management courses,” said Peter Gordon, managing director of Rockley. “We decided to launch Rockley Academy in response to the ever increasing demand for high level instructor training and specialist tailored courses. Rockley Academy draws together our existing instructor training courses and professional watersports training under one internationally recognisable and premium brand.”

Richard Percy, managing director of Rockley International, commented further by saying “Rockley has already hosted a group from Oman Sail towards the end of 2009 and more recently we provided training in Korea, Abu Dhabi and Doha. We are currently working in partnership with ISAF to pilot the first ever Training Manager’s Scholarship in sailing and the first candidate, who is from South Africa, has just started the eight week programme with us. As an internationally recognised centre of excellence, Rockley Academy will support the worldwide consultancy work of Rockley International through delivering the highest levels of watersports training available.”

Rockley has more than 30 years experience in watersports expertise and has built an enviable reputation for the highest standards of tuition, training and safety; all Rockley’s training is in line with ISAF accreditation standards and is recognised by the RYA.
