RYA Sailing Courses for Younger Children
Aimed at our youngest sailors, the Junior Scheme offers a combinatio of land and water sessions for beginners and improvers. For complete beginners, the 5-day course covers the basic skills to produce a competent sailor by the end of the course. Our 3-day course is recommended for the youngest children as this provides an introduction to sailing with the option to extend to 5 days for those who just can’t get enough.
Children are generally taught with two in a boat with their Instructors coaching from safety boats alongside. Sessions on shore are kept to a minimum with maximum emphasis on fun on and in the water! Development of skills is in either Optimist, Escape or Pico dinghies under the supervision of our qualified RYA staff.
RYA Sailing Courses for Teenagers
We offer beginner, intermediate and advanced 5-day courses in a variety of sailing dinghies suitable for the wide range in size and ability within this group. Teenagers are taught one or two to a boat with Instructors coaching from accompanying safety boats.
During the intermediate course, teenagers will also sail double-handed dinghies such as the Feva XL, where they will develop new skills combining helming as well as crewing and spinnaker work. Under the watchful eye of our Instructors, our youth courses offer the perfect blend of enjoyment and tuition to make sure everyone in the fleet gets as much as possible from their time with us.
RYA Sailing for Adults
For those who have never sailed before, you will be surprised at just how enjoyable and easy it is! Adults tend to be initially taught in two- or three-handed boats with the Instructor in the same boat to help learn the rudiments as quickly and safely as possible. Once your confidence and sailing skills have increased to a point where you feel comfortable with the boat, your Instructor moves out of the dinghy to teach and encourage you from a safety boat.
Sailing Plus+ - NEW FOR 2008
This new course is a mixture of informal sailing covering the more advanced modules, fun racing, regattas and the opportunity to try out different sailing dinghies all with an instructor on hand to provide tips and advice.
Aimed at the more experienced youth and adult sailors our 5 day Sailing Plus+ course consistis of multiple skills development clinics. Each session will be managed to ensure every sailor focuses on reaching their next level. With clinics covering a number of differing techniques we aim to use a variety of boats over the course of the week to ensure the best combination for the sailors and tuition sessions. Simply pick and chose which clinics you wish to partke in and tailor your week so you can be as active or relaxed as you like.
