The RYA Scheme

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA)  is the national governing body for sailing, windsurfing, powerboating and yacht sailing.  All our courses are RYA recognised and are taught by fully qualified RYA Instructors.

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme

STAGE 1
Provides a basic understanding of how a boat sails with some experience of steering and handling the boat.

STAGE 2
Develops a range of sailing skills and background knowledgeleading on to becoming a confident small boat sailor.

STAGE 3
Teaches rigging and launching your boat and being able to sail in any direction. This course is equivalent to Level 2 in the National Sailing Scheme.

STAGE 4
Concentrates on the skills to sail a double-handed boat as a crew or helm and solving a variety of problems afloat.

Once you have completed stage 4, you will move on to the more advanced RYA modules (see below)

RYA Adult Sailing Scheme

LEVEL 1 (Start Sailing) - getting afloat.
An introduction to the sport covering the minimum knowledge required to get afloat under supervision.

LEVEL 2 (Basic Skills) - the foundation of the sport.
Teaching you to become a competent sailor in moderate conditions. Covers the 5 essentials, man overboard recovery, capsize drill, land and water sessions

Advanced Modules

SEAMANSHIP SKILLS - sail independently.
How to handle the boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat.

SAILING WITH SPINNAKERS - kites course.
Everything you need to know to sail modern three-sail boats.

DAY SAILING - go cruising.
Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising.

START RACING - go club racing.
The start line for enjoying club racing. All you need to know to get round the course.

PERFORMANCE SAILING - get coached and sail better.
Improving your boat handling and confidence in performance boats.
Learning to get the most out of a  range of performance dinghies.
