Junior RYA Sailing Courses

Junior Stage 1 & 2

Aimed at our youngest sailors, this course is ideal for complete beginners or for those with a little experience and forms an excellent introduction to the fun and excitement of dinghy sailing. Children will develop a range of sailing skills and background knowledge and will be well on their way to being a confident small boat sailor.

Youngsters are generally taught with two in a boat using Escape Mangos, Topper Tazs or Laser Picos with an instructor coaching from a safety boat alongside.

The 5-day course will enable the children to gain the RYA Youth Stage 1 & 2. The 3-day course will cover the Stage 1 syllabus and is recommended for younger children as this provides a shorter introduction to sailing with an option to extend to the 5 days if they really can't get enough!

Junior Stage 3 & 4

This course is aimed at those younger sailors that already hold the RYA Stage 2 certificate, or are at that level. Children are taught in a range of single- and double-handed dinghies which might include the RS Feva and Laser Pico.

Once they have completed the Stage 3 & 4 syllabus, they can then progress on through to the intermediate scheme.

Junior Intermediate

This course covers the Seamanship and Day Sailing modules of the RYA scheme. Youngsters will improve tjheir boat handling skills both as helm and crew and will cover such skills as man overbaord, coming alongside and rudderless sailing. The Day Sailing module puts all of their boat handling skills in to practice and will include some basic navigation, normally to a popular lunchtime picnic spot.

Our 3 and 5 day junior courses run every week, however please check availability before making a booking.
